It does not offer a website history log, password protection, data backup or computer maintenance, as some of the other internet security software programs do. However, TopTenReviews still names it the best security software.
McAfee placed second in the review, earning perfect scores in support, ease of installation, and other security features. It scored very high in the other categories. McAfee contains all of the features that BitDefender did not, plus a few more, including automatic program updates. A unique aspect of McAfee is it protects WiFi connections, preventing others from jumping onto a wireless internet access.
Norton follows McAfee in the top ten, taking the bronze. It gained perfect scores in four categories: antivirus, antispyware, ease of installation and support. Norton helpfully finds internet files unnecessarily taking up hard drive space and allows the computer user to delete them. However, it lacks data backup and is not W.C.L. PC Firewall certified, as the previous two internet security software programs are.
All of the internet security software included in the top ten list can be purchased from online stores such as Herman Street. Of the top three, BitDefender is the cheapest at $59.95. McAfee and Norton cost about the same, the former is priced at $69.95 while the latter costs $69.99. Before deciding to purchase these fairly pricey internet security software options, those worried about computer safety would be wise to take advantage of free trials.
